Denbighshire Community Heritage
November 17, 2009
Project Area: Community Heritage
County: Denbighshire
Project Officer: Adam Bishop
Axis: 4
What is the project?
The Denbighshire Community Heritage schemes can provide assistance and financial support to groups with natural and cultural heritage projects. Our aim is to promote, conserve and upgrade the rural heritage of the County. This heritage encompasses all things today’s rural Denbighshire has inherited from the past, including their natural and built environment, art, literature, language, traditions and history.
The schemes can provide financial support towards a range of costs that form part of a project, such as feasibility studies, consultations, expert advice, interpretation material, oral histories, events, exhibitions, performances, marketing, artwork, literature and websites.
Who can apply?
Eligible groups include Local, Town and Community Councils, business groups, voluntary groups, community groups, clubs and societies in the rural areas of Denbighshire. Cadwyn Clwyd will work directly with these community groups to develop the projects.
Project Examples/History
The Community Heritage project has already helped a number of community groups to deliver ventures. A few examples are featured below.
Denbighshire Open Doors
In September, three weekend events showcased the rich heritage and architecture rural Denbighshire has to offer. The historic towns of Denbigh (12th, 13th September), Llangollen (19th, 20th September) and Ruthin (26th, 27th September) opened their doors. Each event saw numerous historic buildings in these rural towns, many not normally accessible to the public, opened to local residents and visitors. The experience was further enriched with talks and guided walks that brought the sites to life. Cadwyn Clwyd paid for fliers and a detailed guidebook that featured an itinerary, maps and sections on participating properties.
