Bwyd Clwyd - Food from Clwyd
|
The overall aim of Bwyd Clwyd is to raise the profile
of locally produced food products. We aim to promote products as premium
branded products with an environmentally positive image.
The Bwyd Clwyd project aims to support local producers
markets, such as Glydwr Farmers' Market, Celyn Farmers Market, Denbigh
Producers Market, and local WI markets. The project supports the marketing of
niche and novel products, such as the Denbigh Plum and Flintshire Gooseberry.
We are currently involved in helping Celyn Farmers' Market set up a box
distribution scheme. We are also looking into developing a community kitchen,
where those new in the food sector can test and trial new food products. The
Bwyd Clwyd Directory will also help to improve links between the local
hospitality sector and the food sector. We aim to also raise the profile of the
area among visitors with respect to high quality food. |

Clwydian Farm Experience
The Clwydian Farm Experience is intended to create an
entirely new and innovative concept in farm holidays. We aim to create a
network of farm accommodation and on-farm activities such as horse-riding,
woodland walks, open farm, off-roading etc. This network will be marketed on a
collective basis, with the aim of providing a refreshing insight into the
agricultural industry. We run a small grant-scheme to assist farms who are
setting-up new ventures in the agri-tourism sector. The network will also be
used as an educational facility to generate a clearer understanding of food
production methods and the need for sensitive environmental management. We aim
to assist farm businesses in their diversification and create tourism
attractions for the benefit of rural communities and economic growth.
Clwydian Eco-Farm
The Clwydian Eco-Farm looks at innovative sustainable pilots
which aim at improving the environmental sustainability of local land-based
industries. The project promotes the sustainable use of natural resources and
the use of renewable energy to exploit new business sectors.
Pilots include a) using woodchip as an alternative to straw
for animal bedding and looking into different uses for the subsequent waste.
In-housed bedding as well as outdoor corrals will be looked at. We are
currently setting up trials at Llysfasi and are looking for other farms to take
part in the trails b) Bracken Management and composting c) Composting projects.
There is also the potential of creating visitor attractions from these new
initiatives.
Coetir Clwyd
The aim of Coetir Clwyd is to encourage existing and new
enterprises to make the best use of woodland resources, sympathetically
exploiting the resources for economic benefit. We are currently producing a
directory of all businesses in the wood-industry, which will be used as an
information guide for consumers as well as for educational purposes. Other
projects include the re-introduction of old varieties of fruit trees and the
re-establishment of Orchards. Coetir Clwyd can support the marketing of new
woodland or timber products. |
