What’s in a name and a number? According to a new campaign, it could mean the difference between life and death.
Funded through the Rural Development Plan, Cadwyn Clwyd’s Rural Services Officer Helen Roberts is co-ordinating the 999 Where Are You? campaign in rural Denbighshire.
When responding to 999 calls, the lack of prominently displayed identification on a property wastes precious time. That’s why we are working in partnership with the three blue light emergency services to raise the awareness of the difficulties they find in everyday situations trying to find homes in rural Denbighshire.
Paramedic Alun Roberts, from the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust, is convinced the campaign will help to save lives. He said: “What’s important to us when we receive 999 calls is that we are able to arrive at the scene as soon as possible – it can make the difference between life and death.
“People assume that everybody knows them and knows where they live but the crew responding to the call won’t necessarily be local people.
“Satellite navigation can work very well in towns and cities but it is far less reliable in the countryside.”
The North Wales Fire and Rescue Service Spokesman Geraint Hughes highlights the difficulties between dwelling names “You can have two farms with similar names like Fferm Goch Uchaf and Fferm Goch Isaf – the sign may just say Fferm Goch and that leaves the crew with an invidious decision to make.
