The aim of Coetir Clwyd is to encourage existing and new enterprises to make the best use of woodland resources, sympathetically exploiting the resources for economic benefit. We are currently producing a directory of all businesses in the wood-industry, which will be used as an information guide for consumers as well as for educational purposes. Other projects include the re-introduction of old varieties of fruit trees and the re-establishment of Orchards. Coetir Clwyd can support the marketing of new woodland or timber products.
The Coetir Clwyd web-site gives details of all the projects supported under this project, and includes information about woodland walks in the North East Wales area, the Living Galleries project, an on-line version of the North East Woodland Directory - listing contact details of all local woodland-based companies including designers, tree surgeons and local charcoal producers. The project has also assisted in setting-up a new co-operative of local firewood and charcoal producers, to collectively market themselves and work together to supply large contracts, as well as provided training in charcoal production.

The Clwydian Farm Experience is intended to create an entirely new and innovative concept in farm holidays. We aim to create a network of farm accommodation and on-farm activities such as horse-riding, woodland walks, open farm, off-roading etc. This network will be marketed on a collective basis, with the aim of providing a refreshing insight into the agricultural industry. We run a small grant-scheme to assist farms who are setting-up new ventures in the agri-tourism sector. The network will also be used as an educational facility to generate a clearer understanding of food production methods and the need for sensitive environmental management. We aim to assist farm businesses in their diversification and create tourism attractions for the benefit of rural communities and economic growth.
The Clwydian Farm Experience project aims to create an entirely new and innovative concept in farm holidays. The Clwydian Farm-Experience project has assisted a local group of farm accommodation providers to market and promote themselves collectively, for more information visit their web-site. Similar groups have been set-up to promote on farm-activities such as horse-riding, woodland walks, open farm, fishing, off-roading etc. Cadwyn Clwyd offer small rural tourism businesses a small grant to support them with marketing and promotion, for more information please contact the office.
Wales on Horseback
The Clwydian Farm Experience project has also assisted a group of local people in setting-up a new company, Wales on Horseback, who offer package holidays in the North East Wales area for horse riders and their horses. The company is a not-for-profit company and was set-up by a group of local people interested in the equine sector, local accommodation providers and equine businesses, with the assistance of Cadwyn Clwyd.
