PromEUregion: a taste of Europe

PromEUregion: a taste of Europepromoeuregion_pic1

‘A taste of Europe', it sounds almost poetic. We are all familiar with French Boursin, Italian Bertolli, Irish Guinness...But which of us can say that they have recently sampled a typical ‘lentejas' from Valladolid in Spain? Or drunk a shot of Slivovica, the inspired spirit of Buchlov in the Czech Republic?
This is precisely what the transnational Leader+ project ‘PromEUregion' is striving for - to enable the general public to find out about farm and local products from the different, and varied countryside regions in Europe, and thus to take the typical regional identities to heart.

You only have to look at the many project partners to see how contagious the idea has become - as many as 10 Leader areas across the whole of Europe have undertaken to carry out the aims of this project. From Spain to Luxembourg, from the Czech Republic to Wales,...in all of these places it will be literally possible to sample and enjoy the countryside!

Cadwyn Clwyd - PromEUregion Partnerclwydianrange1

Cadwyn Clwyd is a LEADER+ local action group operating in Flintshire and Denbighshire Local Authority areas in Wales (UK). Under this transnational project Cadwyn Clwyd is developing a branded approach for rural activities and holidays within the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The Clwydian Range lies 15 miles west of Chester in the Welsh Borderlands. From the coastal hills above Prestatyn to the purple heather-clad peaks to the south, the Range forms a 21 mile chain of hills rising dramatically from the Vale of Clwyd. To the east and north of the main ridge lie the wooded limestone valleys and gorges of the Rivers Alyn and Wheeler with their impressive outcrops and crags. The Offa's Dyke National Trail and Moel Famau Country Park are the best places to view the Range and the panoramic views across two countries and 11 counties that it offers.

The Clwydian Range offers excellent walking opportunities beyond the national trail and it is easy to explore the wooded limestone valleys or the high moorland slopes. Dotted throughout the landscape are a reminder of our past with a wealth of Iron Age Hillforts medieval farmsteads and industrial archaeology from the 18th and 19th century.

The Clwydian Range also provides spectacular and exhilarating mountain biking with a range of breath taking trails for the adrenaline seeker or the family cyclist.

The towns of Ruthin, Denbigh, St. Asaph and Mold serve the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Ruthin is a picturesque town with its red stone castle and quaint shops. Denbigh, a historic market town, boasts one of the largest Edwardian Castles in Wales. The smallest cathedral in Wales is located in the town of St.Asaph. The market in Mold is renowned throughout the region for its variety and character.
