Industrial Footprints and Heritage Alive |
This project aims at developing a new and innovative
niche tourism product based on research into potential markets, which will
interpret and enhance the industrial past of the Clwydian Range AONB and
surrounding area of Cadwyn Clwyd LAG.
The area has a wealth of
historical and contemporary industries that offer a niche tourism potential,
which in turn should improve the local economy. The project will develop a core
area and then a collection of smaller attractions, which will spread wider
economic benefits to the surrounding LAG area.
The first development
will look at the potential of developing a tourism product encompassing the
theme of 'Industry through the Ages' in the north coastal area of Cadwyn
Clwyd.
The second will concentrate on a network of niche tourism
product nodes in the rest of the LAG area mainly targeting past industrial
villages, in areas such as Loggerheads and the Alyn Valley, Halkyn Mountain -
Lead Mining, the Dee Valley, the Vale of Clwyd and Gwasg Gee Printing.
The areas identified have a wealth of industrial remnants which need to be
conserved, interpreted and developed ensuring a quality niche product that is
networked efficiently and has not been previously exploited for economic
benefit.

The focus of this project will be the development of Green Tourism Networks based around Loggerheads and the Nant Alyn (currently being assessed to ascertain its suitability for SAC status), the Dee Estuary Coastal Area, with a web of attractions throughout the Cadwyn Clwyd area focusing on the above hubs.
These hubs will be interpretive, educational and promotional and will also seek to encourage an expansion of the network by incorporating greener attractions, routes, trails, woodlands and accommodation.
In addition to this local products which emphasise the "green" and environmental characteristics of the Cadwyn Clwyd area will be piloted through a marketing initiative thus exploiting the areas natural resources in a sensitive and environmentally sustainable manner.
The Coastal area project will seek to develop a footpath and cycle path along the Dee Estuary's SSSI/SAC interpreting its natural resources and high quality environment.
New events will also be encouraged to make use of the wider network such as 'Walking Weekends' which will incorporate trails that are in existence and will promote the use of accommodation.

Clwyd Cultural Enterprise |
Cadwyn Clwyd's area has a wealth of cultural
enterprises which have not been fully and sympathetically exploited. The
concentration of cultural enterprises that exist together with the potential
for local business to participate is significant. Existing cultural enterprises
are continuously developing, new initiatives which are pilot in nature,
requiring support and fostering. The LAG will seek to give this support and
develop and innovative pilot to network and promote these enterprises ensuring
a branding of Cadwyn Clwyd as a centre of excellence in cultural activities.
This project will pilot out of season events / festivals that will attract
visitors all year-round and ensure more economic benefit to villages and small
towns in the Cadwyn Clwyd area.

Project elements include
(a)
'In a new light' a festival encompassing the use of lighting in the month of
October, it will seek to develop a series of evenings in October / November
which transform a series of distinct features such as Ruthin Old Gaol, Valle
Crucis Abbey in the Cadwyn Clwyd area through visual new technologies and
lighting;
(b) 'While you're here' a series of pilot cultural events
targeting at enhancing visitor experience through the local culture of the
area.
